Intent

Northshore Horrorfest is committed to providing a safe, fun, and inclusive environment for all attendees, exhibitors, and guests. To ensure the safety of everyone, we have established the following guidelines regarding costumes, props, and replica weapons. Please read this policy carefully before attending the event.

General Rules

  • All attendees, exhibitors, and staff must comply with all Federal, State, and local laws regarding weapons, imitation weapons, props, and costumes.

  • Actual weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited. Violations may result in removal from the event and possible referral to local authorities.

  • All props and costumes are subject to inspection by Northshore Horrorfest staff or security at any time.

  • Any item deemed unsafe or inappropriate by staff must be removed from the event, stored offsite, or checked at the Prop Check Desk.

  • Northshore Horrorfest is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage to any props or costumes.

Prop & Weapon Guidelines

1. Prop Check Desk

  • Attendees with props may be directed to the Prop Check Desk for inspection.

  • Approved props will receive a sticker or tag that must remain visible at all times.

  • Non-approved props must be stored in a hotel room, vehicle, or checked at the desk until the attendee leaves the event. Items not retrieved by show close on Sunday will be disposed of.

2. Firearms & Projectile Weapons

  • No real or replica firearms (airsoft, pellet guns, paintball markers, metal replicas, etc.) are allowed.

  • Props resembling firearms must have permanent orange safety tips while on convention grounds (tips may only be removed temporarily for photography in designated areas).

  • Nerf and foam dart blasters are allowed but must remain unloaded at all times.

  • Bows and slingshots must be de-strung. Arrows, darts, and other projectiles are prohibited.

  • Laser pointers are not permitted. Props with lasers must have batteries removed.

3. Blades & Melee Weapons

  • Metal swords, knives, and martial arts weapons are not allowed.

  • If purchased at the event, such items must remain in original packaging until stored offsite.

  • Costume swords must be peace-bonded (secured so they cannot be drawn).

  • Blunt weapons such as baseball bats, hockey sticks, or other heavy objects are prohibited.

4. Prop Weight & Size

  • Props must not have sharp points, sharp edges, excessive weight, or features that could pose danger.

  • Northshore Horrorfest is an inclusive event. Costumes of all styles and body types are welcome.

  • Costumes must provide full opaque coverage of breasts, genitals, and buttocks. Nudity and simulated nudity (such as sheer or “nude” bodysuits) are not permitted.

  • Costumes must not contain racist, obscene, or derogatory imagery, including but not limited to swastikas, KKK symbols, Ahegao imagery, or hate-related paraphernalia.

  • Costumes or props involving smoke, pyrotechnics, liquids, gases, or chemical effects are prohibited.

  • Balloons, confetti, glitter cannons, or similar effects are not allowed.

  • The event organizers reserve the right to reject or remove any costume or prop at any time for safety or appropriateness.
